GAME 7 in the Garage.

BT v Orks. 1500 pts. Annihilation & Spearhead.

Kill points: I had 10 and lost 1; He had 11 and lost 8.

Wow! I won and after last game it was quite a turn around.  The 1 to 8 score line flatters me.  I had 2 squads with one Initiate left, 2 more squads low on Initiates and my Vindi was immobilised.

I kept the Marshal in a squad this time :)  Strange enough it looked like he would die ~ I had left him and Crusaders just within assault range of 3 Killa Kanz :(
Spearhead stops me from being separated and so I did well.
4 Initiates charged Eavy armour boyz with the Warboss.  I directed all my attacks against him and killed him, saving me from Powa Klaw trauma.
The Ven Dread charge the KK mob and hit 3 times, scored 2 glances and 1 pen, and destroyed 2 in one charge ~ hallelujah!
The Vindi didn't get a shot off this game either.  Constant attention saw it missing in action.  That is a part of it's roll though, draw fire from the other Armour and the Infantry.
The 3-las-Pred again served it up to the second KK mob.  AV 11 and 'immobilised' becoming a 'destroyed' result for a squadron really makes them a worthwhile target for the Annihilator.

*I changed the Marshal to Terminator Armour (which gives free Terminator honours) and Adamantine mantle.  With 3 wounds, dropping to 5++ save didn't seem so bad when instant death is of no effect.

GAME 6 in the garage.

BT v Orks.  1500 pts.  Capture & Control with DoW.

Oh dear.

I lost and how.   My brother-F, seized the initiative.  Well that flummoxed me.  Zogwart trundled on and squigged my Marshal.... :(
Turn 2.
Lootas mowed down most of a squad and the Vindi lost it's gun.  My LC did well against the Killa Kan squadron.
Turn 3.
The Ven dread was immobilised.  The Vindi rammed a Buggy and blew it up ~ nice.
Turn 4.
Melee was joined but the horse had already bolted.  The game was effectively over.  I contested the one Ork held objective but no roll of 1 or 2 to bail me out with a draw.

What did I learn from my shellacking?
A]Never, ever leave ICs exposed, even if you get to force your foe back in deployment. B] Without my Marshal, my Crusaders struggled to kill the Eavy Boyz in droves, which further reduced Fearless casualties.
Other than that just a touch of bad luck really.  A] The Vindi losing it's gun even when I had popped smoke on T2 B] The Dread being immobilised ~ just when it was poised to Assault the Warboss + Mob.
My mistakes and a few unlucky rolls let the Orks start strong and simply carry there momentum.

Just one of those days. ;)

Apocalypse at GW Camberwell.

This Saturday my brother and I are going to play in an A-poc game (as they call it there).  Bring 1500 pts.  We will see how many people turn up.

This will be my first A-poc game and first game against a non-sibling.  I am not expecting my men to survive as they normally die easily in just a normal game and the big templates will mulch my footsloggers.

Still, glory beckons and I'll be going hammer and tongs.  "Kill for the living.  Kill for the dead".

Battles in the Garage.

This year I started playing 40K versus another human.  5 Games to date.  My BT challenged my brother's Orks.

GAME ONE. LOST.
It was so frustrating.  I made some mistakes with shot selection and placement of Independent Characters (herein IC).  He annihilated me and was left with a Weirdboy and Slugga mob.  Ouch.  I learnt lessons though so it was still worth it.

I was dilly dallying with the Emperor's Champion (EC) but when I finally committed him to cc, he shone.  He cleaved the Warboss in twain.  I was surprised that a "Lvl 2" hero could so easily kill a "Lvl 3" character.  Hmmm.

The Dreadnought was another star.  AC & HF.  I didn't like the AC but throughout the game he proved more than a handful for the Orks.  Hmmm.

The Initiates also did well against the boyz but struggled against the Nobz Mob.  Hmmm.

I drop-podded (DP) a Crusader squad versus the 30 strong Slugga mob + Weirdboy.  It did not go well.  My guys were mown down.

After navel gazing, I decided that the Crusaders needed to be lead by ICs.  They were very good but needed the power of Lightning claws or Relic blade at i5 to deal with things harder than troops.  So I added a Castellan with PoLC and he and the EC would lead a squad each.

The Dread was great.  I dropped the AC for a MM and thought maybe he could lead a squad too.  i4 DCCW would do a job like the ICs and having him along with a Vindi & 3-las-Pred  would give the foe a target selection dilemma.

GAMES TWO, THREE & FOUR. WIN x 3.
After a few tweaks to my list and tactics (Castellan up to Marshal and no DP) saw three wins on the trot. 2 & 3 were very convincing.
3 was more dicey; DoW.  I spread my foot sloggers too wide and with the Orks coming in on my right I was asking for trouble.  I lost that flank but squeezed out a win due to the ferocity of Initiates with AAC.

My brother kindly let me play a few games with an Ironclad Dread.  Wowee, they are beasts.  In combo with AAC he ripped through boyz & Mega Nobz alike.  If they give us an Ironclad or Furioso in our next Codex I will be a happy fellow.

GAME FIVE. TIE.
My brother wanted to play at 1750 pts in preparation for an upcoming tournament.  I kept my army list the same but added Neophytes and some goodies to the Marshal.  He used a 500ish point Warboss + Nobz + Zogwart retinue.  Eeep!
Luckily just before he charged my Marshal's Crusaders, Zogwart fried some men and I failed my Righteous Zeal roll with an 11! Few!  This allowed me to flee and then after a turn the Warboss & Friends teleported into what turned out to be a bad position.  Just within range of my Vindi, Dread, 3-las-Pred and 2 Crusader Squads.  I mowed him down in one furious turn.
After that the game was all mine.  Just as victory was imminent, he hooned some Trukk boyz back to his objective.  Then he rolled a 2 for the first roll for turn length.  The game ended T5.
He admitted he had stolen a draw from the jaws of defeat.

This game makes me laugh.  The dice saved me from the Warboss destroying the Marshal and let me kill his mega-unit-of-death.  Then it kept me from a crushing victory.  Most of my army was intact and he had but two units left, but the dice said no.

The story so far.

Greetings one and all,

I thought I would give you my history before I made new reports.  I have not played any great amount of games.  In fact the majority of my games until this year have been against myself.  So far I have won every one of them....

They usually consisted of Marines (mostly Dark Angels) versus baddies (anyone who wasn't a Marine).  Though it sounds funny; going through the procedure of playing a game, rolling the dice, moving your men, following and cross referencing the rules does sharpen your game understanding.

I have played versus Tyranids, Necrons and Tau and it has given me an insight against them.

You won't get such a shock when you play this army against another human.
